Terminal Blocks Handle the Hazards

Apr 14, 2003

Providing convenient and cost-effective connection facilities for printed circuit boards designed to be used in hazardous areas is straightforward with Phoenix Contact's new range of Combicon Ex-approved printed circuit terminal blocks.

All terminals in the range are rated at 20A or higher, and all are certified as meeting the requirements for increased safety, EEx e II.

For applications requiring high connection density and compact construction, Phoenix Contact offers front 2.5H horizontal-entry and front 2.5V vertical-entry terminals.

When mounted on the minimum 5mm pitch, these terminals can be used at up to 175V.

The maximum operating voltage can be increased to 420V when suitable pitch spacers are used.

In addition to meeting Ex requirements, front terminals are also certified by Kema as satisfying the latest ATEX guidelines.

Where easy wiring access is a prime requirement, MKKDSH high-level terminals offer an attractive solution.

Available in versions with heights of 31 and 44mm, these versatile components provide cable entry positions substantially above the level of the printed circuit board itself, allowing easy access, even in restricted locations.

The MKKDSH terminals are complemented by the MK3DMSH double high-level terminals which, compared with the single terminals, allow twice the number of connections to be accommodated with only a modest increase in printed circuit board space requirements.

For the most demanding Ex applications, the GKDS terminal, with a minimum mounting pitch of 7.5mm, can be used at up to 275V without the need for additional spacers.

Able to accommodate 4mm2 solid conductors, these terminals have a maximum current rating of 26A and, for additional security, they are secured to the printed circuit board by two pins per pole.

To complement its printed circuit board mounting terminals for Ex applications, Phoenix Contact offers a full range of accessories.

Depending on the type of terminal, these include pitch spacers, flange plates and marking systems.
