SMTA China Awards Paul Wood “The Best Presentation of Vendor Conference One”

Metcal announces that SMTA China awarded Paul Wood “The Best Presentation of Vendor Conference One for the presentation titled “LED Rework/Using Scorpion SRS-1200/Hot Air Rework Machine.” The award was presented during the SMTA China East 2014 Conference Award Presentation Ceremony on April 23, 2014 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in conjunction with the SMTA China Annual Award Ceremony.

The presentation addressed LED rework challenges, including the difficulty with heating high-mass PCBs, which often have metal backing to PCB to drain heat from the LED into heat sink materials. The benefits of the Scorpion were discussed as an option to address these issues.

The Scorpion has a patented full convection inner and outer preheater. Additionally, a diffuser concentrates the heat closer to the part being reworked from the outer heater. This is required for this type of metal-backed, larger LED PCB, but not for smaller metal-backed LED backlighted PCBs.
