Mar 23, 2001 A new product line has been just released by SMT Plus called the TechEdge eLearn Books. These are not simply books, but combine books with online delivery of the content using full multimedia. How it works is the purchaser receives a book full of color images and text for the topic. Inside the book is a simple form that is filled out and sent to SMT Plus where they are setup with a User ID and password they may use for one year to access the course through the Internet. The books acts as the student guide and later as a reference source.
The eLearn books are a novel solution to today's training needs. Everyone is accustomed to learning using printed material, and have limited if any experience taking courses created using multimedia. Now with eLearn the combination makes the transition very easy and puts the content you want to see both in print and on the screen. The software is very simple to run and does not require you to be skilled at operating a computer. Everything is point and click. It is easy and fun to do.
You may ask, why take the course online if I have the book? The first reason is the imagery - by taking the course online the colorful images in the book may become animations, video clips, interactions, that help to provide a much more detailed presentation than possible in simple print. A second reason could be to take the tests, either pre and/or post tests to see how much you learned. And finally a third reason could be you would like to access the contents through the reference index to look up answers to questions while on the job.
