Murata and Cogiscan Introduce RFID-based PCB Traceability Solutions

Oct 29, 2012

Murata, a worldwide leader in ceramic passive components, in collaboration with Cogiscan Inc., the leading track, trace and control solutions provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, announce a new strategic partnership.  The companies have combined their respective products to offer complete PCB track, trace and control solutions using Murata’s innovative RFID tag — MAGICSTRAP®.

Cogiscan plans to demonstrate the joint solution in booth #609 at the IPC APEX exhibition, scheduled to take place February 19-21, 2013 in San Diego.

According to David Kirk, President of Murata Americas, “This is a natural collaboration for our companies.  RFID offers great potential compared to traditional identification and tracking methods, but this technology must be part of a complete solution to make it easy-to-use and implement. Cogiscan is the clear leader in PCB tracking and traceability in our industry and they have more than 12 years of experience working with related software and RFID technology. Together we will bring a world-class solution out-of-the-box.”

François Monette, Co-President for Cogiscan, stated, “We are pleased to be associated with a world-class technology company like Murata. We have always believed in the potential of RFID for PCB track, trace, and control applications. Now there is an off-the-shelf solution available from well-established suppliers at a reasonable cost and we look forward to implementing this technology in a wide variety of electronic products. ”

Cogiscan partners with leading equipment manufacturers and electronics assemblers to create solutions that can integrate with existing systems to provide factory-wide TTC solutions. The company is committed to the development and continuous improvement of solutions to Track, Trace and Control materials and tools on and off the shop floor. Murata is a worldwide leader in ceramic passive components. Murata has developed an innovative product called MAGISTRAP ® that, when mounted on a printed circuit board, can act as a passive UHF Gen2 RFID tag, allowing the PCB and in some cases the higher-level assemblies and products that comprise this PCB to be uniquely identified and tracked for a variety of purposes.  For more information, visit www.murataamericas.com/rfid.
