The Heat Will Be On at Inaugural Northeast Regional Solder Skills Competition

Aug 29, 2012

The Northeast is about to get a whole lot hotter as competitors fire up their soldering irons at the first Northeast Regional Solder Skills Competition on September 18, 2012, in Boxborough, Mass. Held in conjunction with a REStronics company seminar event, the competition will pit expert technicians against each other to build a functional electronics assembly within a 30-minute time limit. Judges will evaluate soldering assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 3 criteria, cleanliness and technique.

Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded to the top three finalists. In addition, the first place winner will earn complimentary airfare, hotel stay and entrance into the international grand championship held at IPC APEX EXPO® on February 21, 2013, in San Diego.
If you make your living with a soldering iron, then this competition is for you,” says Kris Roberson, IPC manager of assembly technology, and one of the coordinators of the competition. He adds, “There’s a lot of talent within our industry and the hand soldering competition is a great way to showcase soldering skills.”

Individuals interested in participating in the competition should contact Marie Corrigan, REStronics’ inside sales representative, at +1 732-617-6990 or mcorrigan@restronics.com. Only 24 competition slots are available; IPC and REStronics are urging prospective participants to submit their entries as soon as possible.
