Tube Base Relays

Tube Base Relays are general purpose relays ideally suited for applications with the machine tool, pulp and paper, and transportation OEMs. It includes tube base/Octal (8-or 11-pin) terminals. It offers an electrical schematic on the faceplate, a clear cover for visual inspection, snap-in marker ability. Tube base relay also includes DPDT or 3PDT, 10A, B300 contact rating. It also offers standard ON/OFF flag indicator, standard, bifurcated or gold-plated bifurcated contacts. Lastly, it includes an optional lighted status indicator, push-to-test, and manual override.

Safety Interlock Switch

Safety interlock switches are a means of safeguarding that monitors the position of a guard or gate. Where they are used to shut off power, control personnel access and prevent a machine from starting when the guard is open. Some model uses the time delay bolt to provide a time delay after the machine switch off prior to the guard being able to be opened. When the thumbwheel is manually rotated the interlock shaft is withdrawn, isolating the positive break safety contacts, removing the power to machinery. Only when completely withdrawn can equipment be accessed, typically taking 15-20 seconds. When the switch is initiated, it locks the guard closed until the operator manually rotates the thumbwheel, retracting the shaft from the guard door. The action of retracting the shaft initiates 2 functions.

It isolates the power to the machine when the guard is open and due to the operating principle. It gives up to 20 seconds delay before the guard can be opened. Alternative styles with longer shafts can increase the time delay by as much as 50% It is ideal for use on simple machines with short, constant running downtimes. It is important to install and operate the unit correctly to ensure that the retractable shaft is not extended when the guard is open.

Temperature Switch

The temperature switch works just like a typical electrical switch for on/off application. In this case, the temperature switch operates to switch on or off at discrete process temperatures. A temperature switch consists of two basic parts that you will find in all designs.

  1. A sensing part immersed in the process whose temperature is required to be controlled. The sensing part can either be a sensing bulb filled with a fluid-liquid, gas or a bimetallic strip that uses the differential expansion of two dissimilar metals.
  2. Snap-action contacts that act to switch on electrical power to the device controlling process temperature

Liquid filled temperature switches comprise a sensing bulb and bellows element. The bulb is immersed in the process whose temperature is being controlled. The bellows element senses fluid pressure (liquid or gas) as temperature increases within the process.

The fluid in the sensing bulb reacts to temperature variations and increases the pressure in the bellows element when the temperature rises. A rise in the sensing bulb temperature compresses the bellows and moves the main spindle upwards until spring force and bellows pressure are in equilibrium. This movement of the spindle is transferred to the switch and causes on or off action depending on the set point of the temperature switch.

Suppose we are controlling the temperature of a water bath being heated by a burner system powered by an electrical circuit and the water bath temperature is set at 75 degrees C. The temperature switch will not activate so long as the water bath temperature is below 75 degrees C. However, when the temperature exceeds the setpoint, the temperature switch activates switching off the electrical circuit controlling burners. A temperature switch having a bimetallic trip operates in a similar fashion to the liquid-filled system but designs are markedly different.
