Apr 28, 2014

National Electronics Week 2014 opened with a flurry of activity on the morning of Tuesday 8th April and with over 100 exhibitors to see, visitors were keen to meet the leading manufacturers and resellers of the electronics industry. Despite a road incident closing the M6 for the entire day, numbers were still high and an increase on the 2012 event.

"Set up was great and requests were dealt with promptly. We have had a few leads this morning and the quality looks good too."  - Bev Hancock, TDK Lamda.

"We have had a busy first day and all the leads look genuine."  - Heather Halton, Connor Winfield.

"We have had a busy morning with some very interesting conversations." - James Miller, Ecomal.

Over the 3 days the show had over 4,300 unique visitors with a good range of engineers, product managers, sales managers, apprentices, business development managers, business owners, designers, company directors and CEOs.

A host of seminars and live demonstrations were all well attended across the four sectors.  With industry experts such as Stewart Gebbie from Cymbet speaking about Solid State Batteries Power the  “ internet of Everything” Sensors in the Components and Power seminar program put together by ESCN, a Keynote address from Stephen Patterson of ARM on behalf of the Embedded Masterclass in the Embedded and Software area.

The PXI show hosted a range of subjects in Design and Test and Production & EMS seminars were organised by Advanced Rework Technology, additionally there was the Conformal Coating and Cleaning Experience with NPL/Smart Group demonstrating different ways of checking for cleaning performance especially under low stand-off components and conducting live testing.

Taking first place with a score of 167 out of a possible 176, was Andrew Smith, Custom Interconnected Ltd. (UK). As the first place winner, Smith took home a cash prize of £300 and earned a spot at the IPC Hand Soldering WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP at IPC APEX EXPO® 2015 in San Diego, California.

With a number of other exhibitors offering prizes such as an iPad mini from the PXI show and a Raspberry Pi from XJTAG, not to mention the chance to win a powersolve power bank and a free ticket to The Gadget Show Live from National Electronics Week’s own Circuit Tour, the value of this free event was eagerly appreciated by all who attended.
