Oct 03, 2005 The OEM Critical Components Committee comprised of the following major OEM companies: Dell Inc., IBM, Intel Corporation, Lucent Technologies, Cisco Systems Inc. and others, has identified several key components that have a significant impact on their business. The group is working to standardize quality and manufacturing processes for such products as power supplies, air movement equipment (fans), cables, connectors, heatsinks and components. Currently, such globally accepted quality and manufacturing process standards for many of these critical components do not exist.

The first standardization effort identified by the committee was on air movement devices. A proposed draft of the standard has been developed by the Fan Standardization Subcommittee and is expected to be released early next year. Efforts are also underway to develop standards for the additional product categories.
