Averatek Awarded for Breakthrough Aluminum Soldering Process

Nov 22, 2021

Averatek is pleased to announce that it received a 2021 GLOBAL Technology Award in the category of Solder Paste for its new Mina™ chemistry.  The award was announced during a ceremony that took place Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 during Productronica in Munich, Germany.

Mina™ allows replacing silver-based ACP (Anisotropic Conductive Paste) with standard solder, for higher reliability at lower cost.  The Mina™ process harnesses the advantages of aluminum over copper: same conductivity as copper at half the weight – for a fraction of the expense.

Manufacturing with Mina™ is more environmentally friendly than traditional processes, as Mina™ eliminates the steps required for surface finishes for aluminum and shortens processing time. There are multiple applications for Mina™, including RFID mass production, LED lighting panels and power electronics.

To utilize Mina™ in their assembly processes, select EMS companies work closely with the Averatek’s engineering team for implementation. Ongoing technical and marketing support is part of this exclusive program.

“This groundbreaking technology can deliver a variety of advantages for the industry,” said Haris Basit, CEO of Averatek. “The potential for smaller, lighter boards offers great opportunity for the automotive sector. And for power electronics, Mina™ allows for PCBs that operate cooler, improving reliability and longevity.”

The Global Technology Awards have recognized the very best new innovations in the printed circuit assembly and packaging industries since 2005. The prestigious awards contest has been bringing together the global SMT and advanced packaging industry in a celebration of the companies and people that are achieving the highest standards and driving our industry forward.
