A New Chapter Begins: Treston Acquires the Business Assets of IAC Industries Uniting Two Leading Manufacturers of Technical Workstations in the United States

Oct 16, 2023

Ergonomic industrial furniture manufacturer Treston strengthens its position in the United States by acquiring the business of its competitor IAC Industries, a renowned manufacturer of technical furniture headquartered in Goodyear, Arizona. The transaction was completed on September 30, 2023.

Treston's ergonomic and modular furniture solutions are widely used in various industrial, technical and laboratory environments, ranging from the electronics industry to heavy industry, encompassing product development, assembly, and intralogistics applications. Their customer base includes both small workshops and internationally renowned companies such as ABB, Sennheiser and Contec.

This strategic acquisition underscores Treston’s unwavering commitment to foster growth and expand our presence in the North American markets. With this acquisition, our American customers will benefit from an expanded portfolio of products and services, enhanced local support, and the agility and efficiency that come with local manufacturing capabilities.

"Our primary goal with this acquisition is to accelerate growth in the North American market. This year, Treston's sales increase due to the acquisition of IAC but more significantly, the acquisition allows us to establish manufacturing capacity for Treston products in the United States, thus addressing the increasing needs for speedy delivery from American customers. Speed will open new doors for us," stated CEO Esa Siljander.

In Goodyear, Arizona, the deal was signed on September 30, 2023, at the premises of IAC Industries. Pictured from left to right are Treston's CEO Esa Siljander, Don Murphy, the owner of IAC Industries, and Treston's CFO Arto Utriainen.

Treston's sales have shown remarkable growth in recent years. Following the acquisition, the group will employ 325 people, and its revenue will rise to $73.5M.

"With this purchase, we can offer much better service to vastly larger markets than before. IAC is a respected manufacturer of technical furniture in America, with over 50 years of history in industrial furniture manufacturing," Siljander added.

Treston places a strong focus on product development, particularly in ergonomic furniture and ergonomic services, as musculoskeletal disorders remain one of the most common reasons for sick leaves in the industry. In the United States, there is also a growing awareness that organizations taking care of their employees perform better, not only by reducing sick days but also in attracting new talent. In 2018, the United States reported approximately 270,000 workdays lost due to musculoskeletal disorders, with the majority occurring in the manufacturing, retail, logistics, and construction industries.

Donald Murphy, President of IAC Industries, will continue as General Manager for the newly established Treston IAC, and Arto Utriainen, CFO of Treston, will be relocating to Arizona to oversee the seamless integration during the transition period.

Treston and IAC, though born on different continents, have many things in common. Both have a long heritage of over 50 years of manufacturing high-quality industrial and technical furniture and delivering superior support. We look forward to creating a future where our combined efforts drive exceptional success to our customers and are truly excited about what we can accomplish together.

Treston is among the world’s leading suppliers of industrial and laboratory furniture.
