Job Description:

REI is seeking a bi-lingual (English/Japanese) surface mount technology (SMT) Manufacturing Engineer with printed circuit board (PCB) design and manufacturing experience to join our California Operations Group.  The SMT Manufacturing Engineer will develop, test, implement, and document manufacturing processes and methods required for the manufacturing of new and existing parts and/or products in accordance with product specifications, customer requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, tests, implements and documents a variety of operational sequences and processes in the manufacture and fabrication of PCB assemblies, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Includes, estimating manufacturing costs, process time and manpower requirements. Consolidates documents and presents results for review.
  • Works with design engineering to coordinate new product releases
  • Serves as the point-of-contact between REI PCB engineering and Ricoh Company Limited (RCL) in Japan.
  • Troubleshoots a variety of production problems involving manufacturing processes, primarily with printed circuit boards (PCBs). Investigates and determines the root causes of failures and problems. Recommends countermeasures or changes in processing methods to improve uptime, process quality and equipment efficiency
  • Makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines, including the evaluation, selection and ordering of equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of PCB products
  • Maintains records and reporting systems, such as equipment technical notices, upgrades and safety issues related to PCB operations
  • Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and reviews equipment performance and reliability
  • Defines and writes preventative maintenance schedules and technician work procedures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least 5 years experience with SMT manufacturing engineering.
  • Working experience and strong knowledge in all aspects of SMT and PCB processes, including screen printing, high speed SMD mounting, reflow, AOI, wave soldering, hand solder touch-up, selective soldering, ICT, FT and troubleshooting.
  • Thorough knowledge of printed circuit boards (PCBs), including design, testing, quality control, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Thorough knowledge SMT applications and technology for the production of various products.
  • Thorough knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and leadership skills, required
  • Strong project management and math skills, required
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team, required
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Access and other application software used in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Bilingual English/Japanese highly preferred
  • IPC certifications, preferred
