Job Description:

SMT MANUFACTURING (Quality) ENGINEER (Process Engineer)

Duties & Responsibilities:
Researches, develops and installs  SMT processes and equipment necessary to produce high quality, least cost products.  Responsible for the identification and elimination of waste in the production process so that quality, flexibility, throughput time, and operating cost are optimized at the time new products are launched and continually improved throughout the life cycle of a product. Ensures systems are in place in the manufacturing process (Operator instructions, set-up sheets, mistake proofing fixtures/tools, etc.) so that only products that meet all internal and external quality requirements are shipped. Develops the manufacturing process (documentation, programming, tooling, etc.) to support proto, pilot and PPAP runs. Resolves quality problems related to the production process by implementing permanent solutions. Ensures that written responses to customers (when required) are submitted in a timely fashion. Evaluates returned product from customers and leads the effort in developing and implementing action plans to reduce/eliminate the top reason(s) for customer returns. Develops and implements methods for reduced set-up times, simplified fixture change-outs, and universal tooling to improve the flexibility and balanced flow of the production process. Improves process throughput by identifying and eliminating sources of downtime and reliability problems. Works with the production and maintenance organizations to develop and implement improvements. Utilizes data to drive continuous improvement in key internal and external measures (pass rates at in circuit and functional test, throughput time, placement rates, scrap, etc.). Prepares labor quotes and tooling needs (NRE - both customer and C/I funded) for new products. Works with external suppliers to specify, install, and prove-out new equipment and upgrades of existing equipment. Visits customer facilities and meets with engineering, quality and manufacturing personnel to ensure a full understanding of customer needs and requirements and to identify process and product improvement opportunities. Participates in internal and external audits of the company's quality system and processes. Conducts internal audits to identify opportunities for quality system improvement. Performs other related duties as assigned by his/her Manager

Requirements:
The candidate should have experience in Product development & introduction, Manufacturing &
Quality systems, Manufacturing relationships & coordination, Project management, Surface Mount Technology and customer service and support. Power Engineering & test skills would be an asset. This position requires a responsible, mature, aggressive, self-directed leader. Strong organizational and communication skills are required, as the candidate will work closely with the program management teams. Familiarity with manufacturing qualification (i.e. Gage R&R, Cp/Cpk, etc.) and MEA/DFMEA/PFMEA. BSEE / BSME, BS Engineering, or BS Materials and 5+ years experience in Manufacturing & Quality operations/NPI engineering of electronic or electromechanical products in an automotive manufacturing environment.  Familiarity with ISO13485 and AS9100 a plus.
