We know of two "solder savers" 1 Kester Formula 5749 Solder Saver: We believe Kester Formula 5749 Solder Saver to be a new formulation of Kleenox. Kleenox works. It helps separate the solder entrapped in the dross. [One tiny warning, one chemical byproduct of the Kleenox dross reduction process is Fluorine gas. Not much of it, but enough to be irritating to the operators without breathing equipment or great ventilation.] Search the ample threads on Kleenox in the fine SMTnet Archives 2 Pulsar Solder Saver: "The Solder Saver is a unique, handheld tool that scoops dross directly from the surface of the solder wave pot. The dross oxides are instantly separated from the solder using a unique high-speed rotary process system. The newly separated solder flows back into the pot whilst the oxide powder is deposited on the solder surface, for easy collection and removal. [Pulsar Solder Saver +44 (0) 1 383 824 823]" We would enjoy knowing more about this.

We use the Kester Solder saver here and seems to work well.

on a side tangent Technical Devices has a Solder seperating machine used to seperate dross from the solder. I am pretty sure they use heat and pressure to seperate the two.

Sorry for coming in so late on this discussion. For what it is worth. The dross reclamation equipment that I have looked into cost's alot of money. Thus you better do the math on the average amount of dross produced versus the cost of the equipment to save and reprocess the dross. Second is the Kleenox works very well. However, dross has a value on the market. Your supplier should be taking that back from you and crediting you the value for re-claim. That is if they are authorized by local EPE/Osha to do so. Using Kleenox will cut down on the dross and depreciate the value of any solder re-claimed. Basically you can see the difference in the color of the dross and the strength of the cured dross when using Kleenox, it becomes very brittle and dirt like. Like I said, for whatever it is worth.
