Can anyone have a rule of thumb for determining the minimum efficient production volume for a typical SMT line?

Sorry...my ability to properly compose english prose fails me at the end of the work day.

========= My question should have read:

"Does anyone have a good rule of thumb for determining the minimum efficient production volume for a typical SMT line?"

Thanks in Advance,

Jack

Your question is way too generic.Your efficiency will depend on your line configration and the kind of product you are running, among other factors. Start by mapping your process and collect some data for a week. That should give a baseline to start with. After that you can think about improving your efficiency if that is one of your goals. Equipment manufacurers have plenty of literature regarding this matter in support of their sales efforts. regards, R

How about how much did it cost to set-up and run vs. how much $$ you made. You should already have some established margins for your machine time?

Thank you for your input.

My question was very generic because I neither have an EE background nor am I very familiar with SMT technology.

The reason I asked for information regardin minimum efficient production volumes is because the company I work for is considering the purchase of a SMT line to produce small PCBs containing approximately 30 components each.

I personally do not think that this is such a good idea for a few different reasons but primarily, I think that our production volumes will be too low to justify the investment.

However, I am still interested in finding out if anyone could tell me what "typical" production volumes are for a SMT line that could produce similar assemblies.

Best Regards, Jack
