Deleting UNREAD Emails

Deleting UNREAD Emails | 8 August, 2002

I understand that if I delete an email before I read it that it retains an 'unread' status, even though I thought so little of that I deleted it without casting the briefest glance at it. [I also realize that Cal brought this general topic-up a couple of months ago, but I think the responder just belew him off, so to speak.]

I can appreciate that there are probably some excellent reasons for accounting for emails in this fashion, probably the least of which is => 'The emailer on Cold Fusion came that way and we have been soooo busy trying to make sure the Geary's is gone before the date code comes-up that we just haven't had time for munitia like that.'

Well, I'd like to revisit that decision, given: * Volume of load of junk mail that winds its way into the SMTnet emailer. * Some viruses can be passed just by reading an email [I understand].

I'd like the crack development team at SMTnet to consider removing an email from the 'unread list' [er where ever] upon deletion [and maybe work on that Geary's stuff in just the afternoon]. And if you send a case of that Geary's stuff my way, I'll try to help you out and lower your workload in one area to free you up to work on this project.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Hi Dave,

I'll check out how big of a deal it would be to fix. If its simple then we'll nail it. Either way its on the list.

As for the virus question - we actually scan all emails for viruses and they are picked up by our server.

Dave, I think we may have been under pressure to do two things simultaneously when the web email system was built. Obviously letting the expiration date on the Geary's pass by was not an option but the web email still had to get done and I guess I overlooked that "feature".

Well anyways, I fixed it up so when an email gets deleted it will be marked as read and the count of unread emails will be adjusted accordingly.

Thanks for your input, Dave.

I've always know why Neil had a position there, it's some of the others that make me wonder.
