Panasonic Adhesive Dispensers

Any one have any experience with or knowledge of the Panasonic HDP-G1 adhesive dispenser, or any other Panasonic dispensers.

Ron, I have used this piece of equipment and I'll tell you what I tell everybody else about it. I don't trust it. That's not a knock at PFA, by any means. It makes me irate sometimes when I look at these companies who really have their acts together and make great Pick and Place equipment but they get overzealous and try to reinvent the wheel in areas that should just be left to the experts. IE. Screen printing and Adhesive dispensing. This piece of equipment is fast and locationally accurate. The problem I have is dot consistency. These machines dispense glue with pneumatics. The machine will go through a trial recognition segment prior to the processing of each assembly. This consists of placing trial dots on tape, looking at them with the camera, and adjusting the pressure according to the image. Great. One thing you will notice is that sometimes it takes only two trial dots, the next board five, the next board one, the next board 4, what do you suppose is happening to the dots in the middle of populating your board? If I just threw down 2400 dots and it takes 5 trials to get the right dot size on the very next substate, I think something is wrong. If at all possible, look into positive displacement style machines. If you already have a Panasert line and would like to stick with the theme, don't. It's not worth it. Their placement equipment is great. It was a pleasure to work on it. If you are going to be doing any advanced technolgies in your facility and you are concerned with a great adhesive dispensing process, Panasert is not your bag. Ron: I have a story similar to Justin's. A major name in pick and place machines took a CAMALOT positive displacement pump and put it on their machine. The CAMALOT dispenser by itself is great. I used their model 1414 benchtop dispenser for years with very consistent results for adhesives. But when the p&p people got a hold of it and tried to integrate it onto their machine it just didn't perform. The problem was the p&p software didn't allow me to program several important parameters (like dispense duration.) My feeling is that if you want a dispenser, go to a company that does that for a living. By the way, have you considered stenciling the adhesive rather than dispensing? Bob
