My Data MY15 Z AXIS Zero Point Unstable | 16 June, 2021

Hi

Does anyone know how to fix Z Axis Zero Point Unstable on My Data MY15.

The machine will pick 3 components then error Z zero point unstable.

We have changed the Z sensor the Z DC Motor the Z positioning encoder.

Thank you

Check the solenoids. They may not engage properly.

The solenoids seem fine they are engaging in service they can lock and unlock.

Any other ideas?

Since you changed the motor and the encoder, we can rule them out. Did you check the ribbon cables for wear? Is it failing on the same 3 components? Is it failing around the same area on the board? Does it fail when you cycle a tool, multiple times?

We changed the encoder because the ribbon cable is soldered to the board. Both encoders seem to be working correctly beep tested the cable.

We have tried different size components 0603,0805,1206 and different boards.

It will place about 3 to 5 components then error out.

Cycle tool test works no worries we only run into trouble when placing down components.

The 2 big ribbon cables, on top of the X wagon. They run from the booster board, in the back, to the board on top of the X-wagon. They wear out and need to be replaced, periodically. Since, the tool cycle works, the Z-motion is probably working ok. I would check the 2 cables. I'm assuming that your board level test is in a good spot on the board.

It's been a while but what about the nozzle? Is it still springy? And did you check the part data? At one place our machine would be metric or imperial depending on a visitor from HQ. If you are smashing parts on the board that isn't good and if you are dropping parts on the board the z sensor won't activate. If the nozzle sticks the z sensor will keep showing it blocked. Do you have the problem with bigger parts that use a solid nozzle?

Check the friction numbers...there could be an issue with the z-wagon bearings, or something else adding tension to the z-travel. Also make sure there are no cables interfering with the z-travel. Could be a cable that moves into the way at some specific point in the x-travel, not allowing you to see an issue when cycling tools at the tool-box. And always double check o-ring greasing, and the quality of the tip on the tool!

cheers, ..rob
