problems picking up PANASONIC ERJ-12ZYJ203U resister. | 3 February, 2017

PANASONIC ERJ-12ZYJ203U i am having a lot of problems picking this resistor up. i have purchased a new tool per engineering (NOT the problem). it seems the my9 is picking up then dropping it. then the machine goes to pick another and picks the dropped one and n error occurs. the ones that are eventually placed are 50% flipped over. it is taking HOURS to build one pallet of pcb's. i have lengthened pick time, tried a different tool, checked the vacuum pressure, checked the tape to make sure there is no jerking. im not sure what else to do. thanks!

it is a 2010 size

Is it the weight of the component versus nozzle size and vacuum pressure?

2010 component. and the vacuum pressure is good. using an A14 size tool. tried a smaller tool as well. wondering if it could be the coating the company uses to make the print on the part. maybe its not even or something?

Are you having any issues with other ERJ series resistors from Panasonic?

Any other 2010 resistors?

There is, very likely, something specific to this part/package/packaging that is causing your problems.

Things to check: -Identify where the issue is occurring - Slow down the pick/travel/place process, and see where you're having the problem. Is it during pick (centered on the pocket?), is it during center/rotate? is it during head travel? is it during placement? -Check the feeder you have the part in, and insure that there is nothing impeding the pick process. Is the opening large enough for a 2010, if you put it in another feeder does it work better? -Insure that the pick position is centered. Slow things down, watch the pick. -Check package height, pick wait time, travel time, centering phases for accuracy. -Is verify vacuum before pick turned on? (can't remember the actual check...but, should be in either the part or package record).

Thing to try to help narrow it down: -Put some tape on the y-wagon, and try to pick out of there. If this works out, the problem is most likely mechanical at the feeder/magazine level, and not a package/part dimensional problem in the database. -Insure that the pick location is centered on the pocket. -Insure that the cover tape is being accurately pulled back. -Insure that your feeder/magazine pitch is advancing the part to the next pocket correctly. -Test centering off of the y-wagon to eliminate centering dimensional issues. -Update/create a new package with measured dimensional values.

Cheers, ..rob

YES. I am having problems with all the Panasonic parts we use. I was wondering if this is common. I have checked the package and tool and everything. It is the larger Panasonic parts that give me issues. I will try to pick out of tape in the y wagon. I do not have any issues picking other parts in the same package.

It could be a part height issue. I have seen a case where an 0402 resistor from 2 different manufactures had different heights. If the height of your 2010 part is taller than you have programmed in the package data, the pick up head may be pushing into the part harder than normal when trying to pick it up. That is a common cause of parts getting flipped over in the tape as it bounces the tape. I would use a caliper to measure the height of several of the parts to verify.

Other things you may have already tried: Slow down the acceleration (speed) of both the tape advance and the Z direction movement of the head for that package. Also verify the tip on the A14 tool is in good condition.
