Type 3 Solder Print/Squeegee Speed | 28 February, 2014

Good afternoon! Looking to see what everyone else in the industry is running for print speeds regarding type 3 solder pastes. Our paste is a type 3 with 11.5% ROL0 flux content. The finest pitch component in our case is .5mm pitch.

Our screen printer is our bottleneck at the moment and looking for areas to improve upon.

Any suggestions and feedback is welcome.

I'd start with the paste manufacturer's data sheet. You may be surprised how wide their process window is. If that doesn't help...

Can you increase the number of PCBs in your panel?

with 0.5mm pitch I wouldn't go too fast. Check your separation speed as well as your print area(may be you can drive your squeegees 1-2 inches less). Some pastes like Alpha like very fast separation. so you can win another 2-3 seconds from there.Whatever you do, make sure you keep a good print. Everything else will slow you down at the end.

Very good suggestion. We have MPM Speedline printers. Typically we stick with the default after providing the board dimensions. Maybe there's some room there for improvement.

Depending upon the MPM machine that you are using there are options that can be installed to enhance the speed of the machine. If you would like to call me to discuss this further I can be reached at 603-895-5112 and ask for George.
