Agilis Feeders Exposed Parts Upon Removal from Feeder? | 26 October, 2011

Our Company is suffering a Huge lose in scrap parts. I recently took over the My12 MyData SMT Machine. And I'm trying to find a remedy to the lose of exposed parts when pulling tape out of feeders. I've tryed alot of things? But still no Luck. I'm looking for a heat sealer of some kind handheld with controled Temputure. To reseal my tape and void lose of parts. Hopeing someone in the field knows what I'm talking about? And I've serched but only to find big bulky ones.To Much!!! So if anyone has any hints or can point me in the right direction. Would be greatly appreatied. Thank You

I know what you mean but have never found a tool that would do this sufficiently. For higher value parts you should keep them in a bag for the next time you run a job that uses that part and hand fit them.

The nature of the feeders means that you will loose some components like this. Not only on the Agilis for MYDATA but on similar feeders used by other manufacturers.

You say that you are suffering huge loses in scrap parts, do you mean due to this issue primarily?

If so I recommend that you check that your step lengths are set correctly and you are picking every component in the reel and not missing every second one like I have seen before. For example if you have an 8mm step set on a 4mm step reel.

Do you get a lot of parts left in your dump bins?

If so you should contact engineering listing the parts that are being rejected so that the packages can be modified to reduce/remove this issue.

MachineHead: I'm not so clear on the definition of the problem. Is it: * Some components are picked, but others are not picked and remain in the pocket of the tape * All components are picked, some are placed, but others are not placed * Everything picks fine. I'm trying to reduce the number of uncovered components when attaching the cover tape to the feeder take-up spool * I don't know where all the components are going * Something else

Dave,

I think he means that when the plough on the feeder peels back the tape, it exposes a few extra components that are yet to be picked. As a result when he is finished with the reel there are some components in pockets that are not required but not in a sealed state due to already being ploughed. He wants a tool to reseal these parts.

For me if they are just cheap resistors they are not worth sealing back up, only higher value parts or reels with critical stock quantities should be treated with such care in reality.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

SJS2303: That's our first thought also. We agree that dealing with fly-shit does not worth the amount of time it takes.

Mydata makes what you need for this. It is a plastic piece that seals up the tape. Products and Accessories catalog 2007, page 68

Tape seal 8 Mydata part number L-014-1600 Tape seal 1216 Mydata part number L-014-1572

Yeah that is a drawback to those feeders. The plastic part that is mentioned in one of the responses is okay but you have to be real careful when pulling the tape out before you can put that part on. Mydata always says to leave the reel with the feeder but that is expensive and still does not resolve the problem. We put tape over the cover tape but then when we use the reel again we still lose parts. None of what I just said helps and this just one of those things that makes you scratch your head. The plastic bag response is about the only thing you can do.

When I'm Tearing down a Job, And removing the tape and reel from Agilis Feeder. Their is a gap of at least 10-12 Parts. Unpicked parts, When the knife on the feeder spreads the tape aside. and leaves this gap of feel falling parts.

Yeah response to the Plastic Bags, I take the expensive parts and bag and tag them. But when I do this its considered Scrap:( When I return to stock room. But I think at that point I can allways Handplace them. And I do, I try to use all parts cause I don't wanna help with the scrap rate going up. Since Just today I was told my Rate has decreased:)

I set up a job and double check allways my step Lenghts. As I have Had part set to step for 12mm and only needed 4mm what a mess that was:( When Loading the Agilis Feeders their is a Knife that splits the tape back on on side and leaves a gap now Their is 10-12 exposed parts that are stemming from Just loading the feeder.Nothing to do when Machine is in Operation. I was wondering if someone had this problem and found a way (To save these parts)I was thinking Sealing them up with a heat sealer of some sort? But trying to find one is like looking for a diamond in haystack.
