Greetings SMT folks, My name is Danny, I am looking to purchase a low-medium/prototype reflow soldering machine. I would like to have your opinions for which vendor I should go for and model. I have been looking at the convection heating reflow soldering, as well as the vapor phase ovens. I have my eye on two different one. Hi Vee, We are planing on doing low-medium volume and prototyping boards with the following packages. TQFP, BGA and other SMT packages. I would like to go with some thing like batch/tabletop oven for now, but I am not excluding conveyor reflow ovens with few heating/cooling zones if the price is with in my range.

APSgold.com has few that I think are suitable and affordable like, GF-BHT, GF-120HT(conveyor type). Manncorp.com T200N, T200C I also thinking of the LF-HT998( this is a batch oven with combination of hot air and infrared). * If you have used any of these modules or know about the performance, I appreciate your input.

If companies/individuals are planing on upgrading to larger volume ovens and are planing on selling the current used tabletop or conveyor ovens, I'm considering this too. Thank you very much, Please feel free to email me if you think you have or you recommend any ovens. vmorina@gmail.com

Hi Danny, Are you doing lead free? If yes, I would consider the AE-R330A or SMT-2010 lead free reflow oven. Our reflow oven is affordable and brand new. Just want to make sure what size is your board. Also, all of our equipment comes with one year standard warranty.

Hi Vee, I thank you very much for the reply,and yes everything is ROHS. I am reading over the manual and looking at the differences between them. I also have a questions for you regarding stencils for BGA and other types of packages. Do you know any provider out there that does those online, or what material do you think is reasonable to use for stencils.

Hi Danny, I would suggest a laser-cut stencils w/ anti static polymer film. For more information on the stencil you should consider engineering lab. They provide high quality stencil for a reasonable price. If you can find a laser-cut stencil for a better price, go for it.

T962's have a great reputation for cold spots, non-RoHS capable, and catching on fire. however, one can't argue that they are quite inexpensive! The T200's can be had for ~$2k and are apparently not too bad.

We used to use an APS Gold GF-120 before we went lead-free and the HT version came out. It worked fine for low volume and proto runs though not as much control over the profile as an oven with more zones. We actually had a batch oven from Bomir before that. I feel a conveyor style oven would be the better choice especially if your volumes may increase in the future. We now have a six zone Novastar and it is much better than the three zone. I have never used vapor phase so I can't comment on it. I would say get the oven with the most zones that your budget will allow and don't get infared. Stay convection.
