Universal GSM dumping trays with parts still in!! | 8 March, 2001

I am having a problem with a Universal GSM machine (Platform Tray Feeder)dumping trays with parts still in the trays, subsequently damaging the leads. Is it possible to program the machine so if any part is not picked from the tray in the matrices and the GSM moves to the next part location that the machine will flag up that the tray has remaining parts in the tray and does not dump it unless it is empty. This seems very logical to me but I don't know if it is possible (Dave F any ideas?)????

Your safest bet is to manually remove the trays. The problem with what you want is that the machine does not know that it missed a part. It simply goes to the point you specify and tries to pick somthing up; if it doesn't pick up anything it believes the part was missing. To fix the problem you need to have better control over your matrix dimensions. Once you have the correct measurement specifications there should be a drastic reduction in bad tray rejects. P.S. Could the parts being rejected with the trays be coming from the tray under the one to be rejected? If so you have a problem with your suction pad. I believe UIC re-designed this pad about 2-3years ago. If your machines are older than that it might be something to look into to.

Thant's just my opinion, I could be wrong!!!

Enter A value of -1 in the Tray pickup X & Tray pickup Y fields. This will disable the automatic empty tray pickup by the machine. I would recommend getting a data sheet on the tray from the component vendor for accurate pocket & tray dimensions. Variations in tray size will cause numerous problems.

FYI...Universal has software that "senses" if parts are present in the PTF trays or not. With some upgraded s/w your dumping would be over
