My boss just received some info through a design mailing list that he's on claiming that FR406 is not RoHS compliant based on the limited number of processing cycles at RoHS compliant temperatures.

I would guess that this is related to the relatively low Td of FR406, as compared with IS410 or even FR402.

Anyone know anything about this?

FR406 has been our board material of choice, in conjunction with our fab house, for awhile now...mostly based on the higher Tg and Td than FR4, and the relative costs.

Stephen,

I'm hoping that that was the wording, as it makes the most sense. The Td being what it is would tend to make me think that it's a process consideration, rather than a RoHS consideration. Far as I can figure out, chemically, the material meets the RoHS directive requirements.

So, is FR406 still being used out there due to it's affordability? Or are people moving to higher Td materials?
