Fuji IP-1 won't vision read PQFP64 package - any ideas? | 15 February, 2007

The IP-1 vision error is"

"Processing Error" er 401F 4003

which the FIP-I Operating Manual says the cause is "The actual number of leads on the part exceeds the number of leads in the Part Data".

I have checked and re-checked the part data, lead count, body size, lead length, lead pitch, lead width, etc. till I am blue in the face and even measured the part. I have opened up the tolerances and it still rejects almost all the parts. The camera image looks clean but the IP-1 will reject 95% of the parts.

I am using Vision Type 104. It works fine for PQFP44 and PQFP52 but balks at the PQFP64.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bert,

Clean the emitter disk of the nozzle you use for this part.

Set everything in the PD back to where it should be and set the "Lead_check_area" to 10. This will look at 10% of the end of the leads. This will help if the leads do not have even edges for the entire length.

Also make sure the "Pitch_limit" is not set too low. 0 will default to 30% which normally works fine.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for coming to my aid again.

I have tried your settings of 10% for Lead check and pitch limit but still rejects the part. The vision image looks clean on the display.

On one of the last trials I noticed that the part was picked up badly and rotated at least 25-30 degrees, yet there was no attempt to correct and re-scan the part - it was simply rejected. The maximum rotation error I allowed in the part data was 10 degrees.

Bert

Try copying the QFP52 (that works) and add the extra leads (calling it a new name).

It's now working but I had to lie to the IP-1! | 16 February, 2007

Hi pr,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that and also tried copying and modifying the PQFP44 part data without success.

In desperation I changed the Vision Type from "PQFP - 104" to "PLC - 102" without any other changes and it started placing the parts without a hickup. The actual part is a Phillips P89LPC9408 PQFP64 micro which has very short leads only 1mm in length so perhaps that was confusing the vision system. Anyway thanks to you and Jerry for jumping in to help - I hope I can return the favor some day.
