We'd suggest listening to your CSP component supplier. The standoff is too low. Check with your flux suppliers for the information you seek.

I use Alpha 857 W.S. for wave is that what you mean? If so, I love this stuff, it solders everything. one downside to it is convection (wave , rework) can dry it out and leave white hazes and even residues at the joints.

Best way to judge how good a profile is by measuring it. It is not real accurate to determine by the amount of residue left. You should be able to tell if the lead is bent causing the open.

We agree with Russ. Your topside should be 100 - 130*C. Your 265*F is at the top of the range. Look here: http://www.interflux-electronics.com/Products/Fluxes/IF%202005M/TD%20IF%202005M.pdf#search=%22Interflux%20IF%202005%22

Michael, You're right, of course. A major mis-type on my end. What I meant to say is that no-clean fluxes are designed to not _require_ cleaning to meet industry cleanliness standards. Cheers ..rob

It's all about "exercising" the flux and making sure that what is left over, is benign. When the process is correct, the residue should like like a shadow and present no pooling, lumping, etc.

I can't open the picture but if it is webbing and you are running with an alcohol based flux (non VOC free) another thing to check is the Specific Gravity.

Alcohol won't do much for the rosin residue, you'll have to scrub which isn't good on your QFP. Can you clean the assemblies before removal? A solvent such as Ensolve or Axarel would be effective on rosin.

1.Weight the paste 2.reflow the paste 3.clean the residue from the reflow ingot 4.weight the ingot By using simple calculation we can extract the percentage of metal or flux loading from the solder paste.

Hi We had the same problem but it turns out the problem is with the supplier we use a water base flux too, supplier change the solder mask and it work. cheers!
