OK. You used a thermometer to to check your recipe. How do know that the temperatures that you selected are correct? Your solder balls indicates that it's possible that the temperatures that you selected might not be correct. Without belaboring an

Depending on your application, you may need to pre-heat before Soft Beam (unless they make one for it now). Plus, very small connections seem to push it's limits. The beam can only get so narrow. Lasers are good but reflectivity can come into play

Not all OSPs are created equal. Some companies use N2 in their reflow oven to minimize oxidation during reflow. This is for double sided reflow and if wave or selective solder will be done after reflow. Get extra boards from the vendor to test. Run t

We did numerous testing some years ago on matte, gloss and semigloss and found after chemical extraction of the PCB and IR analysis the only difference was the actual cure of the resist. The more plasticizers released the worse the balling If you use

Hi Pb-Head I agree with everything you say, except for your statement that alcohol based fluxes perform poorly with convection heat. The fluxes you tried might have performed poorly, but that doesnt mean that all alcohol based fluxes perform poor

On TH parts we have been hand soldering. This last summer we purchased a Rhythm selective solder machine from RPS automation. I did a factory tour of both RPS and ACE since both facilities are about 1/2 mile from each other. In comparing the 2 c
