Hi, I would also be interested in this thread, but our problem has a different twist to it. We have good results from our reflow with Koki no clean paste, however when we pass the boards through the wave solder machine, the flux in that leaves a fog

Hi! I recently remarked on a thread that so-called VOC-free fluxes weren't. As a result, I got three private e-mails asking what I meant. As this seems to be unclear, I'm starting a new thread with my explanation, rather than sending out the answers

1) why is No-clean (NC) the preferred process, for BGA mounting by SMT? Probably the same reason NC is the preferred process for mounting non-area array SMT components. 2) why is water-soluble (WS) not a hot choice? Theres not reason not to use

| We recently made the switch to no-clean and the wurface mount is turning out beautifully. However, the wave solder process continues to put up a fight; we are getting a white residue on the surface of the PCB. The residue is not localized to

I know it won't prevent this, but have you tried cleaning with a mix of screen cleaner and isopropyl alcohol in a 1/3rd - 2/3rd solution? We use this, put on by antistatic brush, and then using an air jet to blow it away. Afterwards, the PCB's look

It depends on the flux type. If it's water soluble, it should be cleaned soon after reflow because OA flux remains active after reflow. If it's rosin or no-clean (low-residue), then the only concern is the longer wait time, the more difficult it will

The criterion you use will depend on the test method you select. For minimum requirements, look at J-STD-001C, Para 8, "Cleanliness Requirements". I figure that youd measure the residues on a lot of your current product, measure the res on a lot o

In an oven with flux reclamation system, once the circulation is prevented by accumulation of flux in the heat exchanger, the flux will condense where it can, and some of it will coat your PCBs with a uniform layer of flux on the parts/ joints/ goldf

Hey CK, were all sodder googoos ... wanna be gurus Why donchu tell em not to put sodder in your vias? Er, makit so the sodder wont flow out of the bottom of the vias and cause dem stalactites? OK OK, heres wacha do, modify the second side ste
