Double sided SMT, bottom side first or top side first ?

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 04 00:55:12 EST 2003 | nifhail

In the double sided SMT process assembly, normally the bottom side will be processed first, due to it's lesser density as well as it's lesser heavy components. Apart from worrying about the component falling down, what are the potential problems that

Double sided SMT, bottom side first or top side first ?

Most of what we do (across 800+ varieties) is bottom side first. In general, there really aren't any problems as long as our Customers follow the .25g/cm wetted lead perimeter spec for weight (which many don't), and don't mount tall components on th

Brownish Tint on 0805 components

So, tell us more ... * Is this at in-bound inspection? Where do you observe this? * Does this affect the whole component, just terminations, ... * Could the 'brownish' be interpreted to be 'purplish'? * How wide-spread is this [eg, multiple products

Reparing 0201 components on PCB-boards

Am abit confused here, so suggestion is not to manual rework solder the 0201, and rather to cut em' out, with the cut shear applied at the end-terminals? elaborate pls? thanks

smt components vs. wave solder

if you wave solder you have to glue the SMD parts on the bottom side. If you reflow the bottom side then you usually shouln't go over the wave afterwards. It's quite logical the joints melt again, that's what you want to achieve going over the wave.

Listen. Reworking 0201 is too expensive. Heres watt yado * Cut the lil suka between the pads on the board using side cutters. * Flick each piece from its pad, after melting the solder with a standard soldering iron. * Solder the terminations

Sure KA, it's done every day. Be sure that the components to be used on the bottom can take the maximum heat of the wave and the delta T of entering the wave. Depending how complex the bottom side is you will get better results with attention paid

If I understand what you're saying, you are reaching reflow temp's on the top side while soldering bottom side components. You might want to run a glass gauge plate over the wave and make sure your contact pattern isn't too large. If your PCB is in c
