Darby, To my knowledge no case of RoHS (lead) violation has ever gone to court in the EU. The only documented RoHS (lead) violation (again that Im aware of) has been settled out of court in the UK. Check here: http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/s

BTW, The surrounded QFN fine pitch terminals should have the normal aperture reduction of 7 % in case of RoHS Senju solder paste. This works for our Telecom customer. The vias in the ground pad will be somewhat filled with solder and makes it diffi

For very simple boards, 2 layers lightly populated with light thermal mass, we still use FR4. For most of our Pb-Free boards we use the higher Tg material with moisture-resistant packaging. We are a CM so we don't usually get to change many of the

I disagree with the opinion what use the same reflow oven for both Lead and Lead-free process. As you know, the RoHs restrict the presence of certain substances, including Pb,Mercury,Cadmium,Hexavalent Chromium,PBB,PBDE. Maybe yon don't find any iss

Hi Eyal, Sure you can do that. You might be able to use your "typical" reflow profile for eutectic, or tweak it slightly. it's a good idea to do a trial run and then get a couple of components cross-sectioned and checked for the microstructure of th

Oh I agree with you 100%. I have been lucky and have not had to go RoHS...... yet. I can imagine all the hidden pitfalls and problems that could occur. But I guess that's were solid engineering pays off. Some people call it "knob twisting" but mo

Vlad, yes, he made no mention of a BGA, but I thought I'd just throw it in there. Many people are concerned with the "backward compatible" scenario - running RoHS parts with a Sn/Pb solder paste. The scenario's a no-brainer with most components, bu

I have a job that requires a minimum of 3% lead in all component terminations. Anyone doing DOD out there with the same? How do you get around this with R's and C's especially? I believe we would be OK if the terminations were not pure tin as well bu

Good Afternoon Everyone, I have a customer who is inquiring as to the use of a no clean solder paste on their RoHS assembly. We are currently building this with OA, cleaning and then underfilling the QFN, BGA comonents after a sucessful ICT. Does any

From what I was told, more people will die from lead poison. I love the US, everything is a crisis. The number of deaths attributed to lead poison have not been reduced to this date by going ROHS. Me thinks we have all be scammed. Of course I got
