Steam Cleaning for flux

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 22 22:25:19 EST 2021 | rowan

Hi, We were having flux residue entrapment under the component. So we are evaluating to add steam cleaning with DI water, using precision micro prior to Di wash. Have anyone tried this and what are pros and cons. Your advice appreciated. Thanks

Ummm...Ok? Lumidor, The best thing to do is find out at which process this "wax" is occurring at. Targeting the process that just changed may be presumptuous on your part. Pick up the phone or make a visit. In either case, you're the customer a

Hi esoderberg - I was wondering if you had tried altering your soldering profile to try and fully solublize the no clean flux residues and elimate your cleaning dilemma? You can check out my company's website if you want some free reference material

water alone especially cold is not good enough, how do you check for hasl fluids when most residues left behind after improper cleaning are non ionic. Use 40C saponifier followed by heated rinse then cold rinse then DI rinse followed by dry.Nylon bru

Hi Walter, Do you refer to a sprayfluxer operation? The problem seems to be a parameter setting issue. 1. Ensure the wide angle spray reaches PCB with optimum jet pressure. You could pass a glass plate to understand flux coverage and view Jet pressur

No clean residues can range in appearance from brownish gunk that looks like tree sap (because it is in some instances) to almost no residue at all. Is this product exposed to a wave soldering process or SMT? I would guess it's a wave process if th

In theory, no clean flux residues are electrically benign...period. Here's a good test. Subject the board to some moisture/humidity, and have your circuit designer ohm-out any areas that may be affected by conductive material. Option B: Have a la

Yikes!! In-line cleaning, to clean cosmetic and benign residues (from a NO-CLEAN) flux... You sure you can't switch fluxes? Another variable with residues is the solder mask. Depending on mask type (glossy, matte, semi-gloss, or semi-matte), will

Encapsulating water soluble flux residue?

Rather than cleaning a water soluble flux residue off the board, by encapsulating the product. covering the board or the component with lets say a Hysol encasulant. Would this prevent the active flux residue from migrating and deteriorating the elect
