Regarding Ken's statement that "Its market protectionism for the Europeans" - this is nonsense. European producers have to meet the requirements too, and they're no better at it than anyone else.

It is interesting that I have heard the market protectionaism statement from numerous people (CEOs and the like)

yes you can use lead-free components and/or lead-free solder paste on Sn/Pb PCBs. You do get reliable joints. as already mentioned, it doesn't meet the WEEE and RoHS requirement. Indy

How are manufacturers of electronic product that is never sold affected by RoHS. Can someone direct me to a documented statement. An example of such a company would be CoinStar, in WA.

I have a problem with a Murata cap chip type resonator(ROHS). After the reflow process, the soldering joints flow to one side of the component. I did not have this problem with the leaded component. Did someone have a solution for this problem?

All I know is that holding your breath for too long is more hazardous to you health than lead in your cell phone. :(
