It's unrealistic to think that two materials with the following disperant properties would have the same reflow profile. From http://www.norplex.com/Carrier.htm Physical Properties / NEMA FR-4 / NEMA CEM-1 Glass transition temperature C / 130 / 10

Continuing, Ive optioned about the uselessness of shear testing of solder connections on this forum previously. So, the points that you make about the elusiveness of developing a standard for measuring solder connection strength is well taken. Il

PCB & Ceramic Cap strain - Specification?

Electronics Forum | Mon May 10 15:02:37 EDT 2004 | davef

There's no such specification. Not should there be. Shear tests [in our opinion] are senseless, because: * Solder joint strength in pull/shear varies with lead geometry, solder volume, lead metal/metallization, and the way the test is done. * She

| | Do solders exist that are both lead-free and low-temperature (e.g. 100-170 Celsius range)? If so, who supplies these materials? Any websites or contact information would be most helpful. | | | | Also, I am not an expert on soldering, so any

In a previous job, we had torque off requirements for different sized components for our screen print adhesive (non-conductive in our case). We used a torque watch that would measure max torque, so we could test production boards, shear testing was

need IPC standards for lead free solder joint reliability tests

You're correct. There is no criteria for no-lead, but there none for SnPb, either. Solder joint strength in pull/shear will vary with lead geometry, solder volume, lead metal/metallization, the way the test is done.

Epoxied Parts Falling Off

Just an update on my problem. I spoke to Loctite and they had very few solutions. One thing they suggested to try was to add a thirty-second soak time at 150 degrees to my reflow profile. The problem with that is ramp-soak-spike profiles doesnt s
