23rd Annual ASSEMBLY Technology Expo Features More Than 40 Conference Sessions Developed by Leading Industry Associations

Norwalk, Conn., July 9, 2002 � The Assembly Technology Expo 2002 Conference (http://www.atexpo.com/ will feature state-of-the-art education developed specifically for manufacturing professionals by several of their most respected industry associations. The conference is held concurrently with Assembly Technology Expo, the world's largest "all assembly" trade event, which will take place September 24-26, 2002 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois. The ATExpo Conference commences one day earlier on September 23rd.

Leading Associations

Industry organizations presenting conference sessions at the ATExpo 2002 Conference include APICS, the Educational Society for Resource Management; the Adhesives and Sealant Council (ASC); the Edison Welding Institute (EWI); the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME); and the Wiring Harness Manufacturers Association (WHMA). Conferees can create a customized curriculum from a wide variety of workshops and technical sessions covering five tracks: Manufacturing Management; Automated Assembly; Lean Manufacturing; Materials Joining; and Wire Processing. Sessions will focus on a variety of high-interest topics, including work cell design; robotic controls; lean automation; supply chain collaboration; laser welding; adhesive bonding and many more. In addition, electronics manufacturing professionals can find educational solutions at the co-located SMTA International Conference.

FREE keynote presentations by General Motors and Ford

Assembly Tech Expo attendees will have the opportunity to hear insights on the value of cutting-edge assembly technologies from senior executives of two of the world's most successful and respected manufacturers. Gerald L. Elson, Vice President of General Motors and General Manager of GM Vehicle Operations, will kick off the event with his presentation, entitled "Emerging Technologies in Automotive Manufacturing" on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 9:00 am. On the following day, Anne Stevens, Vice President, North American Vehicle Operations for the Ford Motor Company, will speak on "Technology as an Enabler for People and Quality" at 9:00 am.

Lean Manufacturing Forum presented by ASSEMBLY Magazine

Show sponsor ASSEMBLY magazine will present a free Lean Manufacturing Forum on Wednesday, September 25 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This interactive panel discussion brings together manufacturing executives from five non-competing manufacturers--including Boeing, Deere, Freudenberg, Toyota Motor Manufacturing and Ross Controls--to discuss the challenges and issues involved in setting up and managing a truly lean production environment. Panelists will explore the pros and cons of lean manufacturing, share success stories, implementation tips, and lessons learned, followed by a question & answer session.
