Datest Receives Global Technology Award for High-end CT Scanning and Failure Analysis Service

Oct 17, 2018

Datest announces that it was awarded a 2018 Global Technology Award in the category of Test Services for its High-end CT Scanning and Failure Analysis Service. The award was presented to the company during a Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 ceremony that took place during SMTA International. This is Datest’s fourth Global Technology Award, having previously been the recipient of this prestigious recognition in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Datest’s West Coast US Imaging and Failure Analysis Service offers high-resolution micro-focus digital radiography and CT-scanning services for multiple industries and applications, on a quick-turnaround basis. The company is applying the lessons learned in six years of service to printed circuit board process and quality engineers (rapid identification of process anomalies and root causes of board defects and failures) to a much wider audience and multiple market sectors.

Centerpiece of the service is a custom-built, high-precision, micro-focus VJ Technologies Digital Radiography/CT Scanning system, offering 225kV shielded rating. Objects as heavy as 50kg (110lb) and as large as 1000mm x 1000mm (39.37"2) can be inspected in 2D, 3D and CT modes. Images can be recompiled, viewed, enhanced and analyzed using Volume Graphics VG Studio, VG Studio MAX, VJT Vi3, and Fraunhofer Volex CT software packages.

With this service, Datest has the ability to show an engineer, often in hours, if not a few days, what is wrong with their process or product on-the-spot, in three dimensions, and nondestructively. This is crucial because often production decisions, and tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of revenue dollars, rest on the rapid identification of the qualitative source of the delay. Traditional laboratories take weeks and often months to obtain similar results. Datest’s customers cannot afford to wait that long. Same-day service and problem resolution are not uncommon.

Premiering in 2005, the Global Technology Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts.

Datest provides advanced test engineering and inspection services to the CM/EMS and OEM communities, and many other industries. The team prides itself on their speed and flexibility in providing the best solution to each customer’s unique testing needs. With more than 34 years of expertise, Datest offers in-circuit testing (ICT), flying probe testing, X-ray inspection, boundary scan/JTAG testing, functional testing, failure analysis and other related services. Datest is an ISO9001- and AS9100D-certified company, and a member of IPC, SMTA, EIPC, IEEE and ASNT.

Datest is the preeminent provider of advanced, efficient, and cost-effective PCBA testing, test engineering, failure analysis and analytical solutions. Established in 1984, Datest now offers in-circuit and flying probe testing and development services; DFT/DFM analysis; JTAG/Boundary Scan development services; AXI as well as 2D and 3D X-ray and CT-scan capabilities for nondestructive failure analysis, root cause identification, and dispute resolution. The company also offers cross-sectioning, dye & pry, and analytical laboratory services, including SEM and C-SAM analysis; counterfeit component identification and detection; and reverse engineering services. Datest is proud to introduce its new 225kV microfocus CT system from VJ Technologies, offering CT scanning and failure analysis services for all manner of larger objects besides printed circuit board assemblies. Datest is ITAR registered and has a quality management system (QMS) that is certified to ISO9001 and AS9100C. We will be transitioning our QMS to AS9100D in 2018.
