SEHO Systems’ Christian Ott to Discuss Costs of Soldering in Nitrogen Atmospheres at SMTAI

Sep 16, 2013

SEHO North America, Inc. announces that Christian Ott, Senior Sales and Project Manager, will present a paper titled, “Soldering in Nitrogen Atmosphere – Do Quality Aspects Justify the Costs?” at the upcoming SMTA International Exhibition, scheduled to take place October 15-16, 2013 at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Texas. The presentation will be held during Session LF4, entitled, “Actively Improving Your Soldering Process,” scheduled to take place Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Room 204A.

The ongoing miniaturization of assemblies over the past years, high temperature applications such as lead-free production and environmental aspects have stirred up the discussions  about whether Nitrogen that is used in the soldering process can help to improve the productivity in electronic production. There are many aspects that need to be considered. While the expenses for the Nitrogen seem to increase the overall production costs, it also has to be taken into consideration that the product quality can be improved remarkably when oxygen is removed from the soldering process.

Typical soldering faults such as bridging or non-wetting can be reduced tremendously.  In addition, Nitrogen improves the wetting ability and provides much better flow property of the solder.  Basically, the process window gives more flexibility. This results in reduced repair work and reduced consumption of materials such as flux and solder alloys. This paper gives a detailed survey about the positive and negative aspects of a nitrogen atmosphere in soldering processes.

Since its foundation in 1973, SEHO has become the worldwide contact partner whenever soldering is involved. Company solutions are based on performance, flexibility, efficiency and technical progress. SEHO’s business activities and production organization are oriented according to the principles of sustained future-compatible development and production of machines. As a result, all applicable environmental standards are complied with meticulously. With its systems, the company provides customers with a sustained and resource economizing production facility. It continuously develops its technology in order to provide customers with a competitive advantage. For more information, visit www.seho.de.
