Cogiscan, the leading track, trace and control solution provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, announces that its Track, Trace and Control (TTC) solution was selected by SORIN GROUP, a global medical device company and a leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Manufacturing life-saving medical devices demands the highest levels of quality assurance and traceability possible. For material tracking, process control and traceability data harvesting, SORIN has selected Cogiscan’s technology.

Cogiscan provides SORIN with a TTC solution on one line and a link to its MES system from Rockwell Automation. Additionally, a complete conveyor solution from MyAutomation has been implemented. The project was a joint effort between MyAutomation and Cogiscan.

SORIN’s line consists of a screen printer, a pick-and-place system, an automated optical Inspection system (AOI) and a reflow oven. The TTC solution from Cogiscan validates the process inside the screen printer by detecting the stencil, solder paste and squeegees with RFID tags and readers. Cogiscan then harvests the traceability data from the pick-and-place machine and AOI to manage the rework loop when a product does not meet the strict quality standards set by SORIN. At each process step (printer, pick-and-place, AOI, and reflow), Cogiscan communicates with SORIN’s MES system for process validation and transfer of traceability data.

Cogiscan was selected for its standard modular solutions that are designed and proven for the electronics industry.  The TTC solution controls each step to ensure that all traceability data required for compliance is gathered. Additionally, Cogiscan’s TTC solution is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

M. Pascal Govi, Vice President, CRM BU Operations, commented on the recent implementation of Cogiscan’s TTC solution at SORIN, “This project allowed us to quickly achieve higher productivity levels while improving process control. Cogiscan was able to understand our requirements in detail and provide standard solutions to our unique requirements. ”
