Kyzen, a world-leading provider of environmentally responsible precision cleaning products for electronics and high-technology manufacturing operations, announces that Dr. Mike Bixenman will present “Design for Cleaning Medical Electronic Circuit Devices” at the 2011 Medical Electronics Symposium presented by MEPTEC and SMTA, which is scheduled to take place September 27-28, 2011 at the Arizona State University Tempe Campus. The presentation will be held during Session Six, titled “Systems Assembly & Manufacturing,” on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Dr. Bixenman co-authored the paper with Dale Lee and Rob Helvestine of Plexus Corporation.
Medical electronic devices are built with increased device functionality that results from closer spacing between conductors, more functions in a smaller area and a wide range of voltage potentials. With miniaturization, residues from the soldering process create reliability concerns.
Circuit board design plays a role when cleaning is required. The density of components, thermal heat to solder components, component size and standoff height can impact the cleaning process. The board design that will be discussed during this presentation is built to research and evaluate the impacts of PCB design on cleanability of the final assembly. The test board allows process engineers to study the effects of soils, component gap and its effects on cleaning, reflow soldering conditions, cleaning agent selection and different cleaning equipment types.
