Datest Receives GLOBAL Technology Award for New High Energy CT Service

Nov 22, 2021

Datest is pleased to announce that it received a 2021 GLOBAL Technology Award in the category of Test Services for its High Energy CT Service. The award was announced during a ceremony that took place Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 during productronica in Munich, Germany.

Addressing the higher end of the X-ray energy spectrum, Datest is now offering integrated high energy imaging services (both X-ray as well as CT scanning), specifically for those electronic failure analysis and materials science applications where energies of 160kV and below are insufficient to provide adequate material penetration and image resolution. Datest, in partnership with VJ Technologies, is offering imaging services with continuously variable energies of up to 9MeV, using multiple systems in various locations around the country, all on a quick turnaround basis.

Optional imaging analysis services using Volume Graphics, Fraunhofer and VJT Vi3 software also are available. Voxel sizes of 100um are possible.

This is unique for 2 reasons: 1) What was once a highly specialized laboratory capability is now available on short notice to electronics manufacturing, medical, scientific/university, automotive/EV, aerospace/defense and other industries; and 2) services can be performed in days, not in weeks.

In presenting this new service offering, Datest bridges the “capability gap” between conventional X-ray systems and more powerful industrial X-ray systems, thus making them available to a much wider marketplace, and upping the imaging portion of the failure analysis game to cutting-edge status. And in bringing a “time critical” mentality to high-end failure analysis, rapid results are available when they matter. The service is ideal for lithium batteries and small systems where tight time constraints prevent them from being torn apart for analysis.

Images, and solutions, manifest themselves in days, not weeks.  Much has changed in the past year, but one thing stays certain:  time is money. This service recognizes that fact and thrives on it.

“We are pleased that our high energy imaging services have been recognized for the unique capability and value they are,” stated Robert Boguski, Datest President. “To the best of our knowledge, no one else in our industry currently offers the combined suite of imaging services that Datest and VJT provide. From 160kV to 9MeV, we offer X-ray energies to suit every material and every application. For this reason, our services are ideal for projects and applications for the industries listed above, and others, all on a first come, first serve, quick turnaround basis. We invite clients and potential clients to contact us and discover what the excitement is all about.”

With more than 36 years of expertise, Datest offers in-circuit testing (ICT), flying probe testing, X-ray inspection, boundary scan/JTAG testing, functional testing, failure analysis and other related services. Datest is an ISO9001:2015, ITAR and AS9100D-certified company, and a member of SMTA, IPC, IEEE, EIPC and ASNT.

The GLOBAL Technology Awards have recognized the very best new innovations in the printed circuit assembly and packaging industries since 2005. The prestigious awards contest has been bringing together the global SMT and advanced packaging industry in a celebration of the companies and people that are achieving the highest standards and driving our industry forward. Datest was founded in 1984 to address the growing trend of outsourcing assembly test services, together with increasing OEM demands that EMS providers deliver fully tested, functioning product. The company integrates traditional electrical board test methodologies (ICT, Flying Probe, and JTAG/Boundary Scan) with failure analysis (nondestructive as well as destructive), reverse engineering and “bonepile” rehabilitation, functional test development, and analytical laboratory services. Datest also offers comprehensive X-ray services (2D, 3D, and CT) for root cause analysis, high-level inspection and metrology, and dispute resolution. The Datest suite of services includes a 225kV microfocus CT system from VJ Technologies, offering CT scanning and failure analysis services for all manner of larger objects besides printed circuit board assemblies. Datest is ITAR registered and has a quality management system (QMS) that is certified to ISO9001:2015 and AS9100D.  Datest is a member of SMTA, IPC, IEEE, EIPC and ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing).
