Machine Vision Products, Inc. (MVP), global leader in automated optical inspection (AOI) and process control solutions, today has announced that it will introduce its new Supra inspection system at APEX 2003, in Anaheim, California, March 31 through April 2.
"The new Supra AOI system is modeled after the high performance Ultra, but is configured with simpler hardware and easier to use software at a lower price tag. There is a great deal of demand for lower priced systems, " said Dr. George Ayoub, President and CEO of MVP. "Yet overall industry requirements have either remained the same or have increased. Therefore, our new system offers a high performance package with excellent resolution and speed capability, combined with an advantageous price to performance ratio. Through years of experience in manufacturing AOI systems, and by maintaining a standard configuration for the Supra systems, MVP is able to supply Supras at a very competitive cost."
The Supra comes standard with one large format digital camera and a high precision X/Y stage, with 0.5-micron linear scales. The one camera system allows for a configurable field of view depending on the application. The standard pixel resolution is 17 micron/pixel, and 15 micron/pixel for 0201. This high-resolution capability comes with powerful processing power and MVP's signature flying camera technology. These tools come together to form a highly accurate, rapid inspection.
The new Supra has CAD-driven, library-based programming software. It utilizes proven, high performance, adaptable algorithms with the highest detectability and low PPM. Inspection capabilities are standard with the ability to inspect anywhere on the line using the same system. Detection comprises paste, pre-reflow, and pin-through-hole/post-reflow defects, including insufficient and excess solder.
Essentially, the Supra doesn't come with all of the optional bells and whistles or expandability of MVP's flagship Ultra. However, it conveys similar powerful performance capabilities as the Ultra while keeping a price point conducive to those facilities purchasing multiple machines or for small and medium sized facilities looking for a lower cost, easier to use solution.
The Supra is a great solution all around," comments Boris Mathiszik, MVP's Director of Business Development. "It not only meets the demand of high volume manufacturers looking to purchase multiple machines while meeting their budget constraints, but it also satisfies the requirements for NPI and high mix facilities that require easier changeover of programs."
