Standard Motor Products, Inc., (SMP) a leading independent manufacturer, distributor and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles in the automotive aftermarket industry, has purchased and installed a Sigma G5 high-performance, compact, modular mounter to meet the assembly demands of automotive product s being manufactured by SMP. Operating in the Orlando, Florida SMP Electronics facility, the G5 will be equipped with new self-loading SL component feeders and two high-speed placement heads. The G5 is supplied by the Production Systems Division (PSD) of Hitachi High Technologies America, Inc. (HTA).
“We expect the installation of this G5 system to boost our productivity by 30 to 50 percent,” states Haroon Abass, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, “Our older placement systems can’t meet the challenges posed by 603 and smaller components that our new product requires. I’m pleased to say that the new G5 will be able to handle the full range of components that we use in our products.” He added, “Thanks to the increase in production that we will be able to achieve with this machine, it will eliminate the necessity of investing in an additional manufacturing line.”
HITACHI’s Sigma G5 is available in both High Speed and Flexible High Speed configurations. The G5 features a two-head placement system that offers the most flexibility in a single high speed head and a multi-function head; two quick-change feeder bases that accommodate tape and stick feeders or quick change tray unit with tape feeders; and the industry’s first "Overdrive Control System" whereby both heads can pick from each other’s component supply and place on the same board simultaneously and without restriction.
The SMP Electronics business unit located in Orlando, FL maintains an ultra-modern facility for the manufacture of DIS Ignition Modules, Solid State Relays, Remote Start Relays, MAP sensors and other automotive electronics parts. These products are manufactured for sales and distribution directly by SMP sales force, to the original equipment, original equipment service and traditional market channels.
