Exploring the Potential for Driverless Cars Former VP of GM to Keynote at IPC APEX EXPO

 Former corporate vice president of research and development (R&D) and strategic planning at General Motors (GM), Larry Burns, Ph.D., will share his compelling vision of design and technology innovations within the automobile industry during his keynote address, “Reinventing the Automobile,” at IPC APEX EXPO® on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the San Diego Convention Center.

According to Dr. Burns, the technology enabling driverless cars may be the most transformational to impact the roadways and is less than a decade away from being mass produced. Speaking from years of experience at GM, along with his current pursuits as a professor of engineering at the University of Michigan, director of the Program on Sustainable Mobility for the Earth Institute at Columbia University, consultant for Google’s self-driving car program, and contractor with National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Dr. Burns is committed to making driverless cars a reality.

February 20 has been designated as IPC APEX EXPO Automotive Day,” said Alicia Balonek, senior director of trade shows and events. “We were looking for a forward-thinking individual with vast experience within the automotive industry to deliver the Automotive Day keynote and Dr. Burns’ ground-breaking work in automotive R & D and innovations made him an ideal choice to enlighten and inspire our attendees.”

In addition to Dr. Burns’ keynote on “Reinventing the Automobile,” a BUZZ session on automotive technologies will be held on Wednesday. A panel of automotive experts will provide insight into automotive electronics in engine and powertrain systems, embedded telematics, anti-lock brake sensing technology and lighting.

Dr. Burns’ keynote is free to all IPC APEX EXPO registrants.
