SkyBitz Announces Manufacturing Partnership With Solectron

Feb 03, 2003

DULLES, VA AND MILPITAS, CA -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 30-01-2003 -- SkyBitz, a provider of strategic information services for the transportation industry, and Solectron Corporation (NYSE: SLR) today announced they have signed a manufacturing agreement for the SkyBitz Mobile Terminal, a global locating satellite (GLS) asset tracking device for the automotive and shipping industries. The partnership with Solectron, a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services, is another indication of SkyBitz's increasing market momentum.

Under the agreement, Solectron is providing a full suite of services, including new product introduction (NPI), test development, printed circuit board layout and design, card assembly and design of the external housing for SkyBitz's Mobile Terminal. These services are being provided at Solectron's sites in Milpitas, Calif., and Charlotte, N.C. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We are especially thrilled to have partnered with Solectron because the company is noted for customizing all of the necessary skills and techniques needed to prepare wireless technologies for volume production," said Matthew Schor, president and founder of SkyBitz. "The breadth of knowledge and skill that comes with a global partner like Solectron is critical in bringing the GLS technology to the broader market."

"We are very pleased to work with SkyBitz," said Mitch Schoch, Solectron vice president of account management, Americas. "Solectron's knowledge of global positioning technology and broad range of services will help SkyBitz to quickly expand in new and existing markets around the world and offer high quality products to its customers."

SkyBitz's GLS technology, a dramatic advancement of the Global Positioning System (GPS), is a satellite-based tracking and communication service that provides a "Constant Visibility Solution" when transporting sea containers. This adds a substantial layer of security and operational efficiency, both of which are increasingly of greater importance to the transportation industry. SkyBitz's technology has practical applications for a wide range of interests including shipping containers, rail car tracking, automotive roadside assistance and emergency management.
