The Flame ProblemThe ever-increasing and widespread use of electronic devices, such as laptops, tablets, personal digital assistants (PDA’s) and smart phones is requiring longer and longer battery life. The batteries become increasingly more powerful and simultaneously more of a potential fire hazard with every new generation of device. Naturally, the possibility of a fire in an electronic device is a major worry for the electronics industry.

FlameGard™ Technology

Polyonics halogen-free flame retardant tapes are specifically designed composites using its FlameGard technology. The proprietary technology combines several chemical and physical mechanisms to effectively control heat transfer, oxygen availability, material decomposition and generation of flammable gases and help prevent the propagation of fire.

The single coated tapes include 1 and 2 mil polyimide and 2 mil polyester films and 2 mil aluminum foils. One tape also includes electrostatic dissipative (ESD) properties using Polyonics’ proprietary TriboGard™ technology. Other custom constructions are readily accommodated.

Polyonics understands the chemistry and combustion of polymers and has developed a wide variety of flame retardant tapes to address a spectrum of applications.

Ideal for hand and die cut parts in electrical, electronics, automotive, aerospace and medical industries where flame retardant and flame/ESD protection is required.

XT-628	FR	2 mil polyester PET	-	1 mil FR acrylic	PCK	Halogen-free flame retardant meets UL94 VTM1. Prevention of flame propagation.
XT-631	FR	2 mil aluminum	-	1 mil hi-temp FR acrylic	PCK	Flame retardant meets UL94 VTM1. Electromagnetic and RF absorption and isolation, heat dissipation, vapor barrier, PCB mask for wave solder and prevention of flame propagation.

NOTES for Flame Retardant product with Electrostatic Dissipation:

Flame retardant tapes are not recognized by UL, but have been tested to the UL94 standard by Polyonics.
The surface on which the tape is to be applied should be clean, dry and free of any surface contamination, such as dust, oil or rust. Isopropyl alcohol would be a recommend solvent to clean the surface.
