Job Description:

SMT PROCESS ENGINEER: (Wellsboro, PA) - Designs, defines and plans the manufacturing process. Specifies and directs installation of new processes. Plans equipment build schedules and monitors vendor progress. Defines and recommends equipment, methods, processes, layouts, materials, and manpower changes in accordance with recommendations from conducted analysis.  Works to continually improve current processes by analyzing of direct and indirect labor, equipment, and processing costs to ensure that economical manufacturing procedures and processes are used. Determines manufacturing costs for quoting of new products through estimation of standard hours needed to perform operations. Develops method instruction sheets for operations and instructs supervision and process specialists on efficient operating procedures for new/existing products. Applies ergonomic principles to methods and layouts.

Specific SMT duties/responsibilities include:

  • Utilize offline software to generate SMT and AOI programs.
  • Create reflow profiles insuring integrity of solder joints within internal quality guidelines and IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Provide input to minimize cost, lead-time and quality.
  • Analyze yield of SMT processes to ensure process capabilities and throughput.
  • Analyze SMT defects to determine likely failure modes.
  • In-depth knowledge of processes, workflow, task and job management, quality systems
  • Identify and implement process changes to improve yields, reduce costs, improve runtime, reduce downtime and improve quality for all products.
  • Perform root cause analysis of day-to-day issues associated with the manufacturing.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop, lead and motivate multifunctional teams in a dynamic environment.  Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Drive Zero-Defect Quality, 100% On Time Delivery and minimal Cycle Time.

Requires: Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or related field, or equivalent experience and 3 or more years of recent SMT manufacturing experience including circuit pad design, board assembly processing, and machine programming and in-depth experience with SMT technologies. Prefer candidates with previous experience with manufacturing methods/processes and PLC programming, customer orientated focus, strong analytical and problem solving skills, strong communication skills - both verbal and written, strong interpersonal skills and extensive computer skills. Preferred candidates will have experience with the following equipment:
• DEK screen printers
• Asymtek in-line and off-line paste dispense
• In-line solder paste inspection
• Universal Instruments chip shooters, Advantis platform
• Vitronics Soltec reflow ovens
• Yestech FX AOI
• Mirtec AOI
• X-Ray inspection
• Aegis pcb software
• Allen Bradley SLC's and Micro's
