Title: Technologist � Mechanical SMT (Position based in London, Ontario)
Basic Purpose of Position: To set-up, operate, calibrate, program, troubleshoot and adjust surface mount and through-hole technologies PWB assembly, soldering and cleaning equipment. In addition there may be Model Shop functions such as, assisting development engineers in fabrication of prototypes, and fabricating custom jigs and fixtures.
1. Primary or Major Responsibilities:
� On occasion may be required to assist other members of the team in the performance of their designated tasks. Special projects as assigned.
� Sets up and monitors operations of PWB assembly and related equipment.
� Maintains equipment in accordance with the Preventative Maintenance Plan individually or as part of a team.
� Troubleshoots and repairs PWB assembly and related equipment alone, or as part of a team.
� Programs equipment for various product applications as required in conjunction with Industrial Engineering.
� In conjunction with the line supervisor and Industrial Engineering is responsible for training production operators in equipment operation as required.
� Performs routine analytical, logical, and mathematical calculations and measurements. Utilizes precise and exacting measuring instructions and devices.
� Set up and operates various (manual and computerized) machine tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, surface grinders, etc.
� Develops complex sketches utilizing shop reference book and mathematics working from drawings, sketches, and oral instructions. Determines the best fabrication methods to build required tools, jigs & fixtures for Production or Engineering use.
� Set up and troubleshoot all mechanical equipment with minimal support from Engineering.
� Calibration of mechanical instrumentation as required.
� Trains employees in use of tools and fixtures.
� Maintains accurate records of production tooling.
� Researches and makes recommendations for Company Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
� Interfaces with internal and external customers as required.
� Supervise 3-5 operators.
All other duties as assigned.
2. Safety:
� Ensure that all assignments are performed in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Provincial and Company safety and health regulations, and where applicable, proper personal protective equipment is utilized.
3. Minimum Requirements:
� Minimum two year technical diploma or certificate in Microelectronics Manufacturing Engineering Technology or comparable vo-technical certificate, military technical training; or three (3) years of equivalent education/experience in related field; plus four years experience as a Machinist Journeyman including a minimum of 3 years work experience with SMT PWB assembly equipment;
� Ability to read, write, communicate and interpret applicable documents and customer specifications.
