Technical Presentation:

Although everyone is proposing that INDUSTRY 4.0 is the path to ‘DIGITIZATION’ in our modern times, the process of automation has been going on since the 1980s. The presentation covers the strategy started in the 1980s with the ‘CASA CIM Wheel’ (Computer and Automated System Association Computer Integrated Manufacturing) and details on a “Automation Methodology” that worked very successfully in ‘GETTING STARTED’ and finding a successful ‘FIRST STEP FOR AUTOMATION’.

Today, the automation implementation has many more options, but it still starts with ‘sensors’.  For electronics manufacturing, some of the sensors are highlighted, as well as data acquisition (DAQ) systems.  The difficulty may come from selecting a protocol standard to bring the data from the machines and process up to the management software.  And the big benefit, predicting performance outcomes from Digital Twins. The five main industry protocols are discussed along with the presenter’s prediction as to ‘who’ may win.
