Solder Mask

We are currently building a board that has large pads that are for multiple SMT parts. There is no solder mask on the PCB in these areas to seperate the terminations of the parts. The parts tend to pull together in reflow. Can anyone recommend a good solder mask that can be applied by hand after print, reflowed, then removed/washed or maybe even a better way to handle building this design?

If spacing is not to small you could use a temporary peelable mask used in wave soldering. Or have your PCB manufacturer screenprint a peelable mask on for you. These suggestions are only if the mask needs to be removed, If not permanent solder mask would be the best solution.

Dang Patrick, I'm going to have to agree with you again. The design needs to be corrected. This multiple footprint is a common thing nowadays but the designers need to understand the dynamics of reflow and such.

PWH - Why would this mask need to be removed after reflow.

Not sure why - all I know is customer will not allow any foreign material outside of what was intended in design. These are large RF boards and maybe they are afraid this will attract contamination that will affect performance???

SMT adhesive works great! We actually cut stencils to print adhesive in between areas that always solder short over wave. It's the perfect solder resist.

Change a customers board? I thought only Satin could do that?
