What is the difference between a smooth finish organic coated bare copper board for fine-pitch components and HASL finish?

People like flat surfaces for placing and reflowing certain components, like fine pitch devices. Some board suppliers can supply HASL that is flat and well controlled from an amount of material stand-point.

Unlike OSP, HASL has a wonderful shelf-life and requires no special handling. HASL boards can be easily cleaned after misprints. HASL can take many heat cycles.

Base OSP boards can be easily reworked by the fabricator.
