error code: motor comms failure.card3, Axis123 fatal error-reinitialize machine

I swapped x3 and x4, and still get the same error. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance, jsk

Hey, we had the same problem a while ago. On each one of those cards is a battery for back-up. We got replacement batteries a soldered them to the control boards. Dek will want to sell you a new board. Buy these batteries instead. they are made by Varta 2.4v 140mAh 2/v150H Ni-MH. To get you going until then, you need to re-load the Mint files. To do this restart and log onto Dos {F5} at the Dos prompt type C:>cd{space}mint. At the mint directory type C:>MINT/load. Re-start using ctrl+alt+del when mint is finished loading, it will sayC:MINT/. Note: If your Machine comes back to life, Do Not turn off main power until You can replace those batteries, with the weak batteries it will just dump the Mint files again. Hope this helps, Primus

I checked battery voltage with the meter and they are ok.

Just a hunch, pull out and re-seat the cards. also check power supply voltage. We bought 2 used machines and one of them would not boot up, the software would just go in a loop. Turns out the 5 volt power supply was low, 4.85v. just low enough to create the problem and make my life hell for a little while.

On the top lead of the 7 segment display. Voltage is 5v +/- 1% with system power applied. Just curious, how is this adjusted?

Pretty sure. in Y3 enclosure. Page 6.11 in manual VR3 sets the slope of Amp Gain.

Hey, going to lunch now. Just for kicks, did you try to re-load Mint files? They may have been lost some other way, I have seen the DEK software do some crazy stuff in the past. Talk to You in a bit.

I'm back. By chance do You have another DEK You can swap cards with to help isolate the problem?

I did reload mint. When i do this the machine runs fine for about 15 minutes, but i have to continue loading boards. If I let the machine idle for 3-5 minutes, i get the error. We are a low volume manufacturing company, so on a 20 piece run i will reboot the machine six times.

Could be an intermitant card, or encoder issue. Sounds like the machine is giving this error because it is loosing track of one of the axis and instead of trying to move something and possibly crash, it locks up in error mode. Could be something as simple as dirt or grease on a sensor or prox. switch. I am about out of ideas on this one for now. I will let you know if I come up with anything else. Aint trouble shooting fun? Please let me know how it goes, let me know if you need anything else. Primus

I don't have another dek to swap cards with and i'll keep you informed on the problem. It's running fine now but I don't think it will make it through the day. Thanks for the help.
