Mydata Mount Tools

We currently have 4 Mydata pick and place machines in production.(1)TP-9 ,(2)TP-11's,and a new MY-12 machine. We run 3 shifts five days a week, and we also have a weekend shift. We seem to bend alot of A12,A13,and A14 mount tools. When we are busy, we seem to average about 3 a week. AT 195.00 a tool that adds up pretty quick. I have gone over and over training with our operators, but we still seem to have the problem no matter what. Mydata was recently here on a service call and I spoke to them about the problem. They said that the amount of tools that we bend is unheard of. Has anyone else had this problem ?

While we have nowhere near the volume you do we have bent 2 A-14s in 3 years. One was definitely operator error in that a tape holder arm was left floating the other is unknown as this particular (ex)operator wouldn't admit to knowing the time of day. Does it happen on all the machines, all the shifts, different assemblies and all the operators or can you narrow it down? Is there any collateral damage like bent tape holder arms, dings in the side of magazines or tool rest, etc? Look at which way the tool is bent and check the appropriate direction of travel. Did Mydata offer any suggestions? Nobody can afford to consider these things as consumables. Good luck. John Thorup

Well, Mydata did offer some suggestions. One of the suggestions was to go to all tape and reel.(We currently run about 25% of our parts in vibes.)Unfortunately we are in the contract buisness, and that is not an option. We run alot of odd sized parts in our vibes, and we don't always have perfect fitting lanes.I think that that is probably one of our biggest problems.

The only time i have seen this (5 years) has been from operators not allowing the magazines to shut off before pulling them out of their slot. Check the handles on the front of the magazines. If you see some dings on them there is your answer. Good luck.

Don't waste your money on T&R feeders for large parts. I used to have an old TP9 and we ran tons of products with vibe tubes and odd shaped parts. Used to cut our own tubes for parts and jimmy-rig parts like crazy to make them all fit on the machine ( think one board had over 50 different tubes ). Never had a nozzle problem like you are seeing.

Try this one maybe: check your Z force sensor I know the one on my TP9 used to break and the operators would turn it off. Machine would start jamming the nozzle into the parts, as it couldn't tell when to stop. Could it be possible that the sensor is broken, or reading wrong, and busting up your nozzles by slamming into things too hard? Just my two cents, but might be worth a look

The only time we had this problem was when the operator let the mount tool test position on the board be a mounting hole so the machine did not know where the board top was. You might want to check the mount tool position as a lot of PCB CAD people use a mounting hole as the board orgin, which could also be the machine 0/0 orgin.
